I am currently in the process of working on a short comic that will be released for free download on this site, and the estimated publication date is October 23, 2014! Slightly more information on this story can be read here, but as progress is being made, I am ready to divulge more information:
This story will be a three-act one-shot about two high school kids who are bullied and eventually seek revenge on their tormentors...with magical realism and stuff thrown in for good measure. Part of it is based off of actual experience, but a good portion of it is just me tired of seeing these intelligence-insulting "coming-of-age" stories featuring teenagers that get harassed, abused, raped, nearly killed, etc. and then by the end of the story, they just accept it as part of growing up or some nonsense and nothing happens to the antagonist...while "finding yourself" is pretty much the positive outcome of such events in the real world, it's not necessarily what I want to see in fiction. I'm sure the writers came up with these stories to "send a message," but "life sucks and there's nothing you can legally do to make it better" isn't really a great message to walk away with. If you're going to write fiction, why not go above and beyond? After all, you are God of your own universe when you create...
...but I digress. Here is my self-appointed editor, Livvy, overseeing production of the comic I'm working on. That's the (completed) rough draft, which is just stick figures scratched into a composition book, along with concept art and mood music on my iPod.
And for those who celebrate, Happy (Early) Valentine's Day!
