I've been working on Lucid Fate and my portfolio, but I've also been overcoming some personal tragedy that has forced me to take a break from art for a while. Nevertheless, I'm slowly getting back on track.
I'll be honest - I don't like most games like Lucid Fate. I find most walking sims and other avantgarde indie games to be pretentious and I find their advertising to be disingenuous, to put it kindly. However, I think Lucid Fate is going to be more straightforward than other games of its genre - Zane and I aren't trying to hide what it is, nor do we think it's going to revolutionize the way stories are told in video games. It's just a project that Zane wanted to have fun with, and he decided to put his dad's poetry into his work as a way of immortalizing his memory. I was getting into vaporwave at the time and wanted to experiment with my own take on music samples, and I saw this as an excuse to do so. Plus, I get to put my professional Photoshop training to the test, not to mention fiddle around with watercolors on occasion (like the Buddha I painted for the scene above). It's not some philosophical take on the childhood psychosis of the human condition or anything; it's just a celebration of art and people who love art. At least, that's the way I see it.
Either way, Zane is about 90% finished with a second, better demo, and we're about to submit what we've got to Steam Greenlight! We've got about three levels finished so far...who knows, we might be finished sooner than we planned!
